Towns are an important part of Vulengate’s community building experience, and we proudly offer the opportunity to make one to any player who is interested. They are player-made, player-owned, and player-run, and can be both a fantastic starting point for a new player starting their adventure, or an established player looking for a new home (or vacation home!).
There are two kinds of town warp on the server- official and unofficial.
“Unofficial” towns, also called WIP towns, are those that are working on building themselves up to applying for an official warp. They are often accessible through Player Warps or manual teleportation. These towns are frequently advertised in chat /advert messages, through the notice boards at spawn, or in the Towns and Player Warps forum in the Discord server.
Official server towns will be listed in the /towns GUI. These towns have been submitted to and reviewed by the staff team, and have been given an official server warp. These towns can be accessed with /warp [townname] or by clicking on the name in the /towns GUI.
Town joining requirements can vary from town to town, but at their core are either application or request based. Application based towns require an application to be sent in and approved by the mayor(s), while request based towns often only require an individual to ask the mayor(s) to join. This process may be expanded upon through prerequisites, like certain ranks or playtime. These requirements can always be found in a town’s town hall.
Towns will often have inactivity policies, requiring a specific amount of activity or progress either on the server or in the town to maintain residence. In the event that you have been evicted from a town for inactivity, your items will be stored either by the mayor or by staff. You will have received a /mail regarding the location of your items.
Starting a town is free for all players, with no required minimum rank to start your own. However, there are some requirements that your town must fulfill in order for it to achieve, and maintain, a town warp. You can also request a warp’s removal through a #support ticket if you no longer wish to run the town or have otherwise decided to pass the ownership of the town to another player.
We recommend towns utilize subdivisions in their claims as opposed to every resident claiming their own area, as it simplifies the eviction process. For a guide on how to claim and subdivide your town, please read here: Getting Started - Subdividing Claims
In order to keep the town process consistent across all realms, we enforce the guidelines listed below. These guidelines may be subject to change in the future. Your town:
A town must have a reasonably active population to be considered for a town warp. We require at least 7 active citizens, including yourself, but encourage having more to maintain a developed presence on your realm.
What specifically defines “active” can be subjective, and vary from town-to-town, but if a town has listed residents that have no presence in the town (i.e. having an empty shell of a home), they may not be counted as a resident.
Your town must have a name in order for us to have something to put in the warp command! Although this name can technically be anything – even including the names of real-life cities – all names must follow Vulengate rules (no swearing, inappropriate jokes, etc- the full rules page can be found here) and be under 32 characters in length. If a town has an inappropriate name, or lacks one entirely, we may ask you to resubmit your application with an appropriate name.
Furthermore, each town has to have a mayor that handles operations and residents in the town. Although we respect that some towns are run by groups of people, only one individual can be the official mayor of a town and gain access to the related tag.
Much like a vanilla village, your town must have a path connecting major structures and locations. Some towns opt for blocks such as grass paths or gravel, while others use bricks and concrete. This is to make your town easier to navigate for players and to help with making it look put-together and organized.
Equally similar to vanilla villages, towns must have a farm that is accessible to the citizens of the town. Many towns opt for a fully public farm (accomplished through build trust or, for crop-only farms, container trust) to avoid having to trust every new member as they join, but this is not necessarily required.
The ideal amount of blocks occupied by each crop is 64, but this is not a hard rule. This farm can very easily consist purely of wheat and carrots, but a diverse farm can be used by a diverse playerbase!
The town hall is a sort of base of operations for the whole town. It should contain information on joining and the town rules, and some towns even opt to have a town map (though this isn’t required). The town hall is usually (if not always) the location of your town warp as well, as it allows players easy access to the town. Other optional things you can put in your town hall include:
As stated above, town halls must have a board with general town info. This includes town rules and housing information- both of which are vital for the functioning of a town. Some towns opt to have a very large town hall, with several levels and all sorts of features (like shops or farms), but others stick with smaller buildings, focusing more on decoration. Just like how towns must be organized, the town hall must also be relatively organized and easy to navigate.
Towns are often an important starting place for new players. As a result, we require towns to be open to players by some means, even if it involves an application process. An example of a possible application format is below, but this is by no means the required format, and it may not necessarily encompass your town’s needs.
Username:
Playtime:
Rank:
Why do you want to join [town name]?:
Some towns will ask for playtime or rank to determine how active of a resident you will be. For example, a town requiring at least 10 hours of playtime, or requiring Civilian rank.
Please note that poorly made towns will not be put in the warps, only clean and well built ones will be displayed. Although we appreciate all players who try to open a town, towns should be well organized, easy to traverse, and visually appealing. Unfortunately, a town that isn’t well put together may not be considered a town by our standards, and will not be added to our warps list. We encourage a wide variety of town styles, from medieval to modern and anything in between, no matter your skill level!
Most towns have an eviction policy, usually consisting of how long a player needs to be gone before they are evicted and what will then happen to their house and/or items. A resident’s items MUST be stored by the mayor or returned to the evicted player by a staff member.
Mayors should contact their evicted players regarding the location of their items and their reason for eviction. Please do not take a resident’s items for yourself or dispose of them (even after multiple months), as this is considered theft and is punished as such.
Applying for a town is an easy process. If you’d like to apply, please make a #support ticket in the Discord server with the following information.
Town Name -
Server - (red/orange/yellow/green/blue/purple)
Coordinates you want the warp to teleport to - (X/Y/Z format)
Town Mayor - (full IGN)
Town Population -
Town Status - (ex. Open, Application Required)
Please understand that not all applications can be reviewed immediately. Once you submit your application, Senior Mods will visit your town and let you know if any changes are required. We appreciate your patience while we conduct this process.
When your application is accepted, it will be added to the /towns GUI, and you will be given a commemorative tag on the colour your town is on. You will keep this tag as long as your town meets our activity requirements. It will be removed if it no longer meets these requirements, you relinquish your ownership of the town, or you close the town entirely.
As stated previously, we have a forum channel in the Discord that works wonders for advertising a new town. This channel’s rules are as follows:
Within this channel, players can search for towns to live in using the tags to filter. Two tags exist for town warps: Towns and WIP Towns. The Towns tag is to be used only for towns that have an official /warp set, while the WIP Towns tag is great for new towns that are trying to get off the ground and find new residents. If you make a forum thread, be sure to check it periodically to see if you have any new residents looking for a home!
Otherwise, the best way to promote your town is by using /advert and the community notice boards in game. It can seem like a slow process at first, but with patience and persistence, any town can thrive!
