Towns are some of Vulengate’s best ways to get to know people and really connect with your community. They are player-made and player-run, and are a fantastic starting point for any new player to start their adventure.
Official server towns will be listed in the /towns GUI. These are towns that have applied and been accepted by the staff team to have an official Warp, and can be accessed with /warp [townname]. Towns that are working on building themselves up will usually have Player Warps, and can be accessed using /pw [townname]. Oftentimes, both options are advertised at Spawn on the two Notice Boards, or in chat advertisements.
The requirements for joining a town varies depending on the mayor’s preference. However, all towns will have one of two main ways to join- by application or simply by asking. Many towns have prerequisites, such as being a certain rank or having a certain playtime, but these will always be listed somewhere in the town’s town hall.
Towns will often have inactivity policies. In the event that you have been evicted from a town for inactivity, please contact the mayor of the town.
Towns must be active, and populated! This means having at least 7 players join your town and continue to be active on the server. Many towns have inactivity policies, including the removal of homes after a set time period and the storage of items, in order to keep houses available.
For your town to stay in the spawn warps, it must be active and maintain all these requirements. You can also request a warp’s removal through the forums if you no longer wish to run the town.
Vanilla villages have paths leading around them, and so should your town. Most people opt for gravel, dirt paths, or stone brick paths, but some have polished andesite or black concrete to mimic asphalt. These paths should connect all the major buildings in your town, including houses, and some include signs pointing out important structures like the town hall, public crop and mob farms, and other things you think other players should go and see.
Much like vanilla villages, towns have to feed their citizens! Not all the crops have to be covered, but the farm itself should be around 64 blocks per crop, to give players the opportunity to up their farming skills and get some food to let them start out. The farm should be nicely organized and fit in with the town, and should be somewhere easily accessible. Some towns opt to have their farm right under the town hall!
Your town has to be led by someone! The mayor of the town has to be listed somewhere (often beside the town information), alongside your full username. Some towns opt to have a team of people helping to run it, but even in these cases, there is a main figurehead who oversees all operations. This is the person that will be listed on the /towns GUI as the mayor.
In the event that you want to transfer the town ownership to another player, please contact an admin or make a ticket in the Discord server.
Just like real cities, towns have to have names. This is the name that will be listed in the /towns GUI and will also be the warp name. This name can be changed by asking an admin. The town name has a limit of 32 characters and cannot include any offensive content or filtered words. You may be asked to change the town name by the person reviewing your application if necessary. Banned names may include cursing, threats of violence, or inappropriate content.
Poorly organized towns are hard for players to navigate, and may make players not want to join. A well organized town often has signs, beacons, or a town map displaying important locations. A town that is poorly organized will not be put in the official warps page in order to promote clean and sorted towns, and to make sure the mayor is truly dedicated to running the town.
Your town hall is the focal point of all your town’s operations. Usually it’s the location of your official warp, and should include various boards sprinkled around with information, names of residents, or even just acknowledgements! Some towns opt to have a very large town hall, with several levels including shops and farms, but others stick with smaller buildings, focusing more on decoration. Just like how towns must be organized, the town hall must also be relatively organized and easy to navigate.
No matter what boards you decide to put in your town hall, there has to be one detailing the general information on how your town works. Include things like building/plot rules, what theme the town follows, and any other important information that may come to mind.
Most towns have an inactivity policy. This relates to what happens when a player is offline for a long period of time. It’s up to the mayor to choose how long that will be Most towns opt for a couple of months, but there is no explicit rule on how long or short it must be.
Towns are often an important starting place for new players. This means you must accept at least some way to join a town, whether it be free to join by asking the mayor or with an application. Making a town private will remove it from the /towns GUI list and you will have to reapply to have it listed again.
In order to make the town as accessible as possible, a town with an application requirement must have this requirement explicitly stated somewhere in the town hall. If you have an application required, direct them to where to send the application (on discord, in a written book, using in-game mail) and explain what’s required in the application. A basic application format is as follows- most towns ask the basics just to get an idea of who you are.
Username:
Playtime:
Rank:
Why do you want to join [town name]?:
Some towns will ask for playtime or rank (possibly add a link to the ranks page here if you deem necessary) to determine how active of a resident you will be.
On the forums, you can make a new thread using the following format to apply for a town warp. The location you want to post your application in is the Towns thread. These applications are checked frequently. When your application is denied, a senior staff member will reply to the application with the reason why you were denied (inactivity, missing requirements, population, etc) and invite you to reapply when you have fixed the issues. When your application is accepted, it will be added to the /towns warp and you will be given the [Mayor] tag.

Running a town is all about building community and supporting your residents. This section will cover the basics of operating a town.
Mayors of active towns gain a commemorative tag, the Mayor tag. (put picture here, maybe with the &5 colour code accompanying it)
You will keep this tag as long as your town meets our activity requirements. It will be removed if it no longer meets these requirements, you relinquish your ownership of the town, or you close the town entirely. Being a mayor is the only way to acquire this tag. You will only have this tag on the colour you run a town on.
Most towns have an eviction policy, usually consisting of how long a player needs to be gone before they are evicted and what will then happen to their house and/or items. These items can be stored (but not entirely stolen) by the mayor, often also for a set amount of time, before being disposed of. Staff members can return these items for the mayor if needed. Please do not take a resident’s items for yourself, as this is considered theft.
